Christmas in the Country
One of the truly wonderful holiday events the kids at the Club experience through the generosity of the T and T Foundation, Mrs. Lale Estes, and the gracious hosting by the Hasten family, is the Christmas in the Country. We traveled to Novice to the Hasten ranch where kids enjoyed hayrides, pictures with Santa, roasting hot dogs over an open fire, May Farms animal menagerie, and a bouncy house. Enjoy the many pictures of this year’s Christmas in the country!

Today is the last day of the Summer session and it has been a great summer! Here are a few photos from this past week.

I have left my blanket at home!
Every summer we have a wonderful club member who has shown up at the Club with her flip flops, shorts, t-shirt and her blanket. She was our very own Linus and wouldn’t be caught anywhere without her security blanket. Extremely intelligent and quite personable, she took any questions or teasing about her blanket with a grain of salt and let us know she wasn’t going to part with it.
I was pleasantly surprised when she showed up this year without her blanket! She made a loud announcement of it to me by exclaiming, “Mr. Mark, do you notice anything different? NO BLANKET!” She did admit she still sleeps with it at night but at least now she leaves the house without it. I told her we all take baby steps, and it won’t be long and she won’t need it at all.
The joy in her face as she made her announcement reaffirms her own personal growth; in the Club and outside of the Club. I am thrilled she allows us to share in her personal victories and that she feels comfortable around the staff to make such an announcement.
Small victories such as hers makes the summer hours worth it!

Summer Financial Literacy Classes Are Fun!
This gallery contains 3 photos.
Kids from both of the Clubs have been taking advantage of the classes offered by Junior Achievement through a United Way collaboration. The classes are fun, activity driven, and bring a wonderful reward of understanding money, saving money, setting budgets, and having a goal in mind of where you want you savings to reach. The older kids explore how much it takes to start a business, market their product, and establish a budget to keep themselves fiscally sound.
Summer means more than just having a great time at the Club, it means learning great stuff too!
